Softtware is a tool used in tutoring students. They were first used in the 60s and 70s,
but over the years it has formed into a software.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008). Based on my understanding about the session content is i learned about the types of instructional software, the benefits and the
drawbacks of it.
drawbacks of it.
What is the biggest/one of the most destructive hinderence to teaching or learning?
The answer is ego. It is better to leave the ego and learn.
There are five function to help student learn:
1.Drill and practice
The drill and practice software is similar to the usage of flashcards. Students learn this through repetition of the activity. For example, a student who wants to learn mathematics has to practice different types of maths problem repetitiously to identify better for the other maths problem solving questions. Drill and practice is actually a form of objectivist learning. Moreover , drill and practice would be a
benefit for student who wants to prepare themselves for exams or solve
mathematics problem.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)
benefit for student who wants to prepare themselves for exams or solve
mathematics problem.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)
Benefits
The students learn concepts faster, get immediate feedback and can spend time solving or learning at their own pace
(Education.seattlepi.com, 2017)
Drawbacks:
The students can get bored because of repetition, some software are poorly
designed and lack of high technology graphics and sound affects.
designed and lack of high technology graphics and sound affects.
(Education.seattlepi.com, 2017)
Example drill and practice
2.Tutorials
Tutorials is a program designed for a given topic. Student whom want to do tutorials must learn what is taught in the classroom, otherwise they wont be able to answer to questions. Tutorials is an objectivist learning since student may or do not have the knowledge about what is being taught.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)
Benefits
The students can learn from different time and place, repeat sessionthey prefer and skip session they already have knowledge in (Baysinger, 1997)
Drawbacks:
Students must be motivated to complete the tutorials, takes longer time to learn rather than in classroom and sometimes information from tutorials may be wrong or confusing(Baysinger, 1997)
Example of tutorial
3.Simulations
Simulation is a design of am actual model on a digital computer. It is probably a replica of a real life conditions, event or situation. For example, a pilot learns how to face possible accident through flight simulation training. Simulation usually prepares a person into an activity their are going to involve themselves to before participating in the real activity.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)
Benefits
Students are provided with feedback of what they design, may explore, create digital design without physically building an object and it can be effective to demonstrate concepts(Web.cs.mun.ca, 1996)
Drawbacks:
It can be expensive to build, students have limited understanding of some physical system and students do not have enough knowledge to create(Web.cs.mun.ca, 1996)
Example of simulation
4. Games
Games can be in a form of educational software designed to be exciting, competitive and motivational especially for students. One of the best method a teacher can make learning interesting is by integrating games in their teaching. This will create an environment where students learn while enjoying themselves.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)
Benefits
Students can learn better, understand new concepts and think in different perspective, learn variety of skill and students are actively engage in the learning process.(Educationworld.com, 2013)
Drawbacks:
Sometimes the games might not be appropriate for education, teacher may have a hard time identifying the apps and how to us them in teaching and students might be wasting their time playing instead of learning the concepts (Bright Hub Education, 2016)
Example of game

5. Problem solving
This software enable students to recall information learned, analysing, organising
and even predicting possible outcomes.
This software requires student to learn only certain type of method to solve solutions.
This method is often related to solve mathematic problems.
This software can be an objectivist or constructivist learning depending on
the activities.(Edtech2.boisestate.edu, 2008)

Benefits
It develops the students to critically think, visualise to solve mathematics problem and students make some effort to discover and to solve mathematics.
(roblyer, 2008)
Drawbacks:
Many concepts to solve mathematics problem and when students are
solving the problem does not mean they are learning skill necessary

Example problem solving
Among all the the instructional software listed above i would use the drill and
practice method in my learning because i find it effective when it comes to my learnin.

Moreover, as a future educator i prefer to emphasis a certain limit of drill
and practice exercise such as work sheet per lesson is only five.
The reason why is student will be motivated to learn the session faster
and would not get bored easily.
