In this session we learned about the meaning of long-distance learning, long distance learning is a method that allow students to complete their high school or college education courses without being in campus. This classes can be taken online, audio or video cassettes. It is called a distance learning that allow students to earn course credits. Some education would require the students to learn online and take exams on campus. Long- distance learning programs allow students to complete their work at the time they prefer before the due date. This learning program is the easiest option for students who are not able to present themselves in traditional classes (Learn.org, 2017).
Moreover ,in this session we had to come out with ideas of how to teach young adults and late teen in groups my group and i came up with ten phrases
Phrases
-where is the restroom?
-good morning/good day
-how are you
-could you direct us to?
-could you help me with
-my English is not that strong /i know little English
-can i have some .....`/
-i am in pain
-i am lost/i lost my friend
-what is your name
How?
We are going to teach time in three week using the Internet.
My group and i decided to use the B.F skinner drill and practice method
-flash cards
We decided to put picture and wordings in the cards for the student to identify
Example:
-kahoot
The kahoot app can be used to test their understanding by answering quizzes
Social apps(Facetime/skype)
-if the students have any doubt regarding the lesson they can use skype to contact
my group and I decided to teach them five days per week and each session is about four hours.
Week 1
-drill and pratice
Week 2
-Quizzes/check for understanding
Week 3
-simulation/collaborate
Problems we might face
-time differences
- students from across the world might want to learn and the time difference would
be hurdle if they want to communicate
-poor Internet
- for example students from a village area might find it hard to access the
Information online
-lack of understanding/engagement
The tutors might not be able to guide each and very students who want to learn
this module
-language barriers/misinterpretation
For some people English might not be their first language
-lack of reinforcement
If students are not forced to the the module they would not be disciplined to
learn this module
-abuse the Internet/distraction
Instead of studying students might be playing games
Quotes during class
Durden (2001) says ‘’...no existing form of distance learning can similarly affirm students as an individuals and also force them to acknowledge. The ideas of others... Disenfranchised students , as much as their affluent and advantaged peers...;;
Types of distance learning
1.printed courses-correspondence
- for example , each lesson has twenty-four session. After receiving the payment, they will send printed copies and assign the student to the tutors
2.Tapus /audio cassettes/UCR tape
The lesson can be recorded. Students can view videos or listen to them in order to
learn the lesson
3.multimedia -internet/online
- students could find additional resources apart from the information provided
in the lesson
4..Audio conferencing/video conference
- students can have to face to face chat to the tutors regarding their
problems in the lesson
5.social platform/learning platform that initiative social media
-Eg. Conrsera/free courses for everything
In this session i find that even i learn a lot of things online. For example, i wanted to learn french . I watched some youtube videos to learn the language i managed to learn few words within two weeks time
As a future educator to reinforce my students to learn online course without being told. I would tell my students that the person who performance well will get a reward after completing this course. This will encourage the students to do their online courses without being told every time..
